German and European engines are built around specific manufacturer approvals — and using an oil that merely says "full synthetic" is how you end up with timing chain wear, clogged variable-valve solenoids, and a warranty conversation you lose.

The approvals that actually get used
- VW / Audi — 502 00 and 504 00 on petrol, 507 00 on diesel. 504/507 are the long-life approvals; the wrong one shortens the interval whether or not the light says so.
- BMW — Longlife-01 and Longlife-04. LL-04 matters on the particulate-filter cars, where the wrong ash content is a filter you pay for twice.
- Mercedes-Benz — MB 229.5, and 229.51/229.52 on the diesels. Sheet numbers, not viscosity alone.
- Porsche — A40. There is no generic substitute for it.
Viscosity is only half the answer. A 5W-30 that meets VW 504 00 and a 5W-30 that meets nothing are the same number on the bottle and different oil in the sump. We quote the approval, not the weight.
Capacity gets checked against the car, not guessed. European sumps run larger than most domestics, and an underfilled European engine is a bearing problem before it is an oil-light problem.
